Important roadworks information

A1 Biggleswade North Roundabout to Sandy: northbound total closure - resurfacing

I am writing to tell you that we plan to carry out resurfacing work on the A1 northbound Biggleswade North Roundabout to Sandy. Once complete, drivers will benefit from a safer, smoother and better-defined road surface.

We plan to complete this work over three nights. Work will begin on Monday 7 July, pause on 8 and 9 July, then resume on Thursday 10 July and is expected to be completed by Saturday 12 July 2025. We will work between 9pm and 5am, weather permitting.

Closures and diversions

To carry out the work safely, we will need to close the A1 northbound from Biggleswade North Roundabout to Sandy and divert traffic as follows:

• Traffic wishing to join the A1 northbound from the Biggleswade North Roundabout will need to travel southbound on the A1 to junction 10 (Baldock Services).
• At Stotfold Interchange, take the third exit onto A507.
• Continue straight to Clophill Roundabout and take the third exit onto the A6 (Bedford Road).
• At Elstow Interchange, take the third exit onto the A421 and head towards the Black Cat Roundabout, where the diversion ends.

Traffic wishing to rejoin the A1 southbound will need to take the first exit at Black Cat Roundabout onto the A1 Great North Road, then turn around at Wyboston Roundabout. Drivers will be directed along a clearly signed diversion route.
