Update on Queen Street Road Closure

Update on Queen Street Road Closure / Works – 12/06/2024

Over the last 4 weeks JLES have been making progress on the Queen Street upgrade works, we have been able to finish installing the new kerb line, install the new tactile crossing points and bus stop as well as prepare the footpaths ready for tarmacing.

Unfortunately, over the last week we have discovered that the existing road construction (existing Central Bedfordshire Council highway), beneath our area of works, is not to Central Bedfordshire’s specification and will require additional enabling works to ensure the longevity of the new carriageway once installed.

Following a site meeting with Central Bedfordshire’s clerk of works, a plan has been put in place to remediate the issues and we are working on implementing this as soon as possible, unfortunately this will mean there will be significant delays to our works programme and duration onsite.

Access to all businesses is still available, either Via Mill Lane to access businesses before Queen Street or Via High Street to access businesses along Queen Street itself.

The new completion dates are:

Phase 1 (Current) – Completed by 05/07

Phase 2 (Closure of Queen Street to High Street) – Completed by 16/08

We appreciate this will cause additional disruption, however we appreciate your assistance whilst we complete these essential works.
