New *FREE distance-based, online short courses with tutor support to help you build, extend and apply your English, maths and IT skills during lockdown

Introduction to Digital Job Searching Workshop

Thursday morning starting 11th June 2020

An online and distance-based course to increase skills and confidence in using Social Networking Platforms, tips on completing telephone and video interviews and completing online applications.

Session will cover:

  • An introduction to using a range of Social Networking sites to search for job vacancies
  • Tips on improving your online profile and promoting your ‘Brand’.
  • Tips on how to improve confidence when participating in telephone and video interviews.
  • Tips on completing online job applications.
  • Information on the Local Labour Market.
  • How to stay safe online.

Poetry Group

Tuesday morning starting 9th June (Session dates 09/06, 16/06, 23/06)

Thursday morning starting 11th June (Session dates 11/06, 18/06/, 25/06)

Whether you have a love of reading poetry or a new found desire to make sense of poetry, this course will help you to find, share and discuss a range of poetic structures.

Sessions will cover:

  • Read, share and discuss what makes poetry special within a small online group.
  • Build on poetry skills by learning how poetic terms help us to make sense of poems.

Family Learning English for Parents

Monday morning starting 8th June (Session dates 08/06, 15/06, 22/06)

Friday morning starting 12th June (Session dates 12/06, 19/06, 26/06)

If you are looking for a way to help support your child as they develop their English skills, this online course will help you to understand the progression and current expectations for all children from Reception to Year 6. We will look at the different strands that are being taught in each year group, such as handwriting, composition, poetry, spelling and creative writing. With this understanding, age appropriate resources and recommendations that are both engaging and fun, parents will be able to continue to support their child as they develop their English skills.

Sessions will cover:

  • Using the National Curriculum's guidelines to understand the expectations and progression from Reception to Year 6.
  • Understand the different strands of written English that are taught in the classroom.
  • Learn where to find a range of English resources to help you develop your child's English Skills.
  • Learn where to find a range of phonic resources and how to use them effectively

Digital Skills for Beginners

Monday morning starting 8th June (Session dates 08/06, 15/06, 22/06)

Wednesday morning starting 10th June (Session dates 10/06, 17/06, 24/06)

Digital Skills for Beginners is an online distance learning course which will assist you in improving your IT skills. Learners will create and edit documents, download and attach files, create online shopping accounts and learn how to use the internet safely and securely. Learners will gain confidence in their IT skills, communicating via email and to shop online securely.

Sessions will cover:

  • How to search the internet safely
  • How to create online accounts
  • How to use the internet for shopping online

*Free to those who are 19yrs + on 31 August 2019 and have lived in the UK for the last 3 years
